Human Milk Oligosaccharides (HMOs), the third solid component of human milk, are complex structures with a high potential for specific functions. Research is revealing the full extent of the beneficial properties of HMOs. More than 200 HMOs have been detected so far and classified into three different categories: Fucosylated, Sialylated and Non-fucosylated neutral. This brochure presents the latest science by Nestlé Research on specific HMOs from these 3 categories in different benefit areas: brain development & cognition; gut comfort; protection against infections,  intestinal epithelial barrier, metabolic health and microbiome.
