Brain Development in Toddlers: Linking Brain Changes with Emerging Abilities

The toddler years, around 12–36 months, are a period of remarkable brain growth and plasticity. As brain connections are built, strengthened and refined, toddlers rapidly develop new abilities in movement, thinking, language, social-emotional skills and self-regulation.
