Usual nutrient intakes for FITS 2016 were estimated from 24-h recalls in 3235 US infants and young children. Their diets were largely nutritionally adequate, with mean intakes exceeding Adequate Intake levels for all nutrients except vitamins D and E. Iron intakes were below Estimated Average Requirements for 18% of infants 6-11 months old. The biggest nutritional issues for children 12-47.9 months of age were high intakes of sodium and low intakes of potassium, fiber, and vitamin D. From 3 years of age, excess saturated fat was also of concern.
