Jaundice Neonatal Period and Infancy

Jaundice is the most common condition that requires medical attention in newborns. The cause, accumulated unconjugated bilirubin, can be exaggerated in numerous conditions causing excessive bilirubin which can lead to death and neurological sequelae. In this discussion, common causes of neonatal jaundice including physiologic jaundice and treatment modalities will be discussed. Further, causes of jaundice due to increased production or decreased clearence, breastfeeding and breast milk jaudince will also be addressed.
