These proceedings highlight the presentations at the 6th Congress of the European Union Geriatric Medicine Society (EUGMS) where leading experts discussed the importance of using a validated screening tool for early detection of malnutrition, the role of specific nutrients in optimizing functionality in the older adult and the role of nutrition intervention on impacting outcomes such as muscle strength, falls fractures and ultimately mortality. Experts advocated for routine nutrition screening as part of the Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment and that nutrition intervention should be a standard part of comprehensive geriatric care.
