Besides clinical duties, he has been involved in neonatal research since 2005 when starting his PhD on fetal and neonatal protein metabolism under supervision of Prof. J.B. van Goudoever. 

Later extended his research to other aspects of neonatal nutrition, such as lipid metabolism, human milk, and probiotics.

An active co-author of several international nutritional guidelines by ESPGHAN, i.e., on parenteral nutrition (2018), probiotics (2020), and enteral nutrition (2021).
