Introduction and Welcome

This symposium discusses protein-energy malnutrition, frailty, and sarcopenia, which are common overlapping problems affecting health outcomes for older patients with oropharyngeal dysphagia (OD) that often go unrecognized and untreated. We urgently need validated integrated protocols to screen, assess, diagnose, treat,and monitor all these conditions to improve the outcome of older patients with OD.
