Drawing on her many years of experience as a nutritionist in US high schools, she talks about the need for nutrition education to be paired with changes in policy, systems and the environment to reduce diet-related chronic diseases. In 2018, for the first time in the US, dietary factors rank as the leading factor for mortality. Obesity is rising worldwide: actual eating patterns do not align at all with published guidelines. Some progress is being made, but regulation may not be effective when there is little or no education.
