A Plant Powered Diet for Optimal Health

Nutrition Health & Wellness

Plant-based diets are ecologically more sustainable than a typical Western diet due to their lower carbon footprint, less use of land, energy and water. Plants are part of many indigenous and traditional diets, such as the Mediterranean diet, for which scientific evidence reveals an abundance of health benefits. To adopt a plant-based eating style, more plant proteins are recommended to be included in the daily diet, which needs to be carefully planned to provide adequate amounts of all nutrients. However, there are concerns that children eating plant-based diets without any animal protein do not receive adequate amounts of some essential nutrients for their healthy growth and development and may require additional supplementation.
