The essential vitamins and minerals, collectively called micronutrients, are needed for healthy growth and development, yet a third of the world’s population has deficiencies of one or often more of them. In low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) some of these deficiencies are widely prevalent. Micronutrient deficiencies are a global problem for individuals and communities through their adverse effects on growth and development, especially during pregnancy and the first two years of life.
