Exclusive enteral nutrition is a proven and effective therapy for the induction of remission and mucosal healing in paediatric patients with Crohn’s disease. However, the mechanism(s) of action is not well understood. In this symposium, the role of total exclusive enteral nutrition, the normal diet and intestinal inflammation will be explored. Greater understanding into the putative effect of diet on the stool microbiome may provide valuable insight into the molecular mechanism linking the environment to the intestinal immune system.
