Graduated in medicine at the Khyber Medical College in Peshawar, Pakistan, and obtained his PhD at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden
Currently the co-director of the Centre of Global Child Health at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada and holds numerous other professorships, including at the world's top institutes for global health, Johns Hopkins and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine
Runs several large research teams and leads the research in this field at the Aga Khan Universities, particularly in Pakistan and Nairobi
Scientific achievements have been recognized by numerous international measures of esteem, including being a foreign member of the Royal Society in London
Published over a thousand scientific papers that have been cited 200,000 times, and has a huge influence on global policy
