Yvan Vandenplas

Prof. Yvan Vandenplas completed his medical studies at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and trained in pediatrics (1981-1986) at the same university
He became the Head of the Unit for Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition in 1987 and created the Pediatric Hospital, the "KidZ Health Castle," at the Univerity Hospital Brussels (UZ Brussel).
Defended his Ph.D. thesis on "Esophageal pH monitoring for Gastro-Esophageal Reflux in Infants and Children" in 1991
Founder and current consultant at "KidZ Health Castle", at the University Hospital Brussels (UZ Brussel) of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel
- Chair of Pediatrics at the same Institution from 1994 to 2021

Main interests are functional gastrointestinal disorders such as gastroesophageal reflux, colic and constipation, infant nutrition, focusing on probiotics, prebiotics, and cow's milk protein allergy
