The development of the 5 senses within children and the impact of complementary feeding
The development of the five senses in an infant begins before birth all throughout early childhood. Their senses mature and allow them to connect to the world around them. The sense of taste and touch develop quickly in the first 2 years of life, as compared to vision, hearing and smell continue to mature until later years. Mealtimes are an opportunity where all the 5 senses are activated, offering opportunities to challenge sensory development given the wide range of tastes, textures, smells, sounds and sights.
