Carine Lenders gives a perspective on the issues facing the teaching of nutrition in US universities and medical schools.  She outlines a public-private partnership solution for improving medical education, research and practice in nutrition curricula at the graduate and post-graduate levels.  The way medicine is being taught in the US is changing, and nutrition as a subject must understand the changes and evolve content to fit the new model of learning and assessment.  She gives a detailed explanation of an initiative she is co-chairing in collaboration with the National Institute of Health and the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute which has short and long-term activities to drive the discussion forward.
