Rapid Sustainable Agricultural Growth – Agnes Kalibata

Nutrition Health & Wellness

Fifty years after the Asian Green Revolution, Africa is finally moving towards higher crop yields. Already 13 African countries have achieved the target of at least 6% annual agricultural growth rate. Despite this progress, food availability needs to double by 2030 to feed the growing population in Africa. Food security requires to integrate efforts of all stakeholders, from farmers, to technology and financial service providers, agro-dealers, private entrepreneurs and the governments. Especially, the smallholder farmers are the key to an agricultural transformation. Since its foundation in 2006, the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) aids smallholders by focusing on environmentally sustainable improvements along the whole agriculture value chain.
