The first 1000 days of life are a rapid and dynamic period of brain development and at this period myelination is key to promote proper brain connectivity. Myelination accelerates signal transmission between cells and thus support brain communication. Myelin is mainly developed during the first 2-3 years of life and is modulated by specific nutrients. Pascal Steiner discusses in his presentation the impact of nutrition, specially the role of specific lipids, such as phospholipids and sphingomyelin, in myelination and cognitive development.
