Gut Talk Series: Role of microbiome on development of allergic diseases

Gut Microbiota

Allergic diseases are being more prevalent nowadays. There are many implicated factors that may be causing this phenomenon, and an altered gut microbiota composition and/or activity, also called dysbiosis, is highlighted to be one of them. The gut microbiota is important in shaping the developing immune system of the individual because they interact with the immune cells in the gut associated lymphoid tissue. Lack of breastfeeding, limited diets, processed food, too much antibiotics, lack of physical activity and exposure to nature and sunlight can lead to dysbiosis and promote allergic inflammation.
