Martin Kohlmeier notes that too few medical schools prepare their students for everyday nutrition challenges in clinical practice – there is a lack of urgency.  Yet with greater focus, we know that many deaths can be prevented, much health spending can be saved, and medical outcomes can be improved when physicians are well trained and know how to recognize nutritional problems and how to address them.  He advocates a multi-layered approach across all the years of medical training, not just one module at some point in the curriculum.  He outlines interactive on-line training that is having some impact, with interest not just in the US but world-wide.
