Complementing HMOs with strain specific probiotics in healthy term neonates: first results of a randomized trial

Gut Microbiota

HMO studies have grown in number and moved to the direction of exploration of combinations which can optimize its effects, such as with the use of synbiotics including HMOs and bifidobacteria. However not all bifidobacteria are able to utilize it as well to reap its full benefits. Considering the unique capability of infant type bifidobacteria, specifically B. infantis, to process HMOs, Jean-Charles Picaud presents the first results of a randomized clinical study testing the safety and efficacy of a combination of 6HMOs and B. infantis in neonates.
