Summary
Breastfeeding is an unequalled way of providing ideal food for the healthy growth and development of infants. In the absence of breast milk, partially hydrolyzed formulas are an option for feeding the infant. Use of partially hydrolyzed formulas in healthy infants is safe and nutritionally adequate. Partial hydrolysates are clearly not the same, hydrolyzed formulas have different preventive potential. For the purpose of prevention only formulas which have demonstrated their preventive potential in controlled clinical trials should be used.
