Role of HMOs in Preterm Nutrition

Preterm infants are a vulnerable group of neonates, which face specific health risks that are related to their immaturity in combination with increased nutritional needs. Current research point towards an insufficient HMO intake in preterm babies. First promising evidence from a randomized controlled clinical trial suggests a faster progression to full enteral feeding and adequate growth by providing preterm infants with an HMO supplement.
