Dr Major is Head of Department for Gastrointestinal Health at the Nestlé Institute of Health Sciences in Lausanne. He is a UK-qualified gastroenterologist and internal physician, and until September 2021 practised in a clinical-academic post between the University of Nottingham University and the associated NHS Trust.

His gastroenterology practice included IBD clinics and a regional referral clinic for nutrition problems in complex disease and complex functional GI disorders.

Dr. Major’s research focus is on the relationship between dietary carbohydrates, gut function and gut symptoms, and how changes in microbiota mediate this relationship, initially in irritable bowel syndrome but more recently in cystic fibrosis. He is currently a joint author of the British Society of Gastroenterology guidelines for the investigation of chronic diarrhoea.
