Major Achievments: 
Member of the National Academy of Medicine, a Fellow of the American Society for Nutrition, and a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement  of Science. 

Recently stepped down from a long term as Editor of The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition and an even longer term as Associate Editor of The Annual Review ofNutrition. 

Former Chairman of the Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine (USA), and also served as President of the American Society for Nutrition (with Dr. Naomi Fukagawa). 

Has authored nearly 300 scientific publications. For his scholarly contributions, he has received numerous awards from professional societies, academic institutions and the Federal government.
