Cow’s milk protein allergy (CMPA) is one of the most common food allergies in infancy and childhood, affecting up to 2% of this age group in the USA. CMPA may manifest as immediate, IgE-mediated symptoms as well as more delayed chronic symptoms affecting gut or skin. In general, prognosis of CMPA is favorable with majority of the affected infants and children achieving tolerance to milk by school age. Diagnosis of CMPA relies on careful history, skin prick tests and serologic tests as well as elimination diets and oral food challenges.
