New Advances in Nutritional Management of Pediatrics Crohn’s Disease

Summary

Crohn’s Disease (CD) is a life-long, progressive disease that impacts both patients’ physical and mental health. Food can be both harming or beneficial to improve disease outcomes. The symposium chaired by Prof. Paolo Lionetti reported new nutritional strategies to manage CD. Prof. Frank Ruemmele commented the importance of enteral nutrition for CD management and presented the outcome of the first-ever randomized clinical trial showing the effectiveness of cyclic exclusive enteral nutrition (EEN) for the maintenance of remission and mucosal healing. Prof. Arie Levine followed by discussing recent insights and strategies in the dietary management of CD with Chron’s Disease Exclusion Diet combined with partial enteral Nutrition (PEN) for induction and maintenance of remission in patients with mild to moderate active CD but also in more severe conditions.
