To study the effects
of human milk
fortification on the short-term growth and nutritional status
hospitalised premature infants in China in a prospective controlled study.
Methods: From November 2009 to March 2011, premature
infants at four tertiary hospitals were included in this study based on the
enrolment criteria, and were allocated to either an experimental group (≥50% of the diet was
provided by human milk collected from the mother during hospitalisation, and preterm
formula was provided when the mother did not have enough milk) or a control
group (preterm formula only was given during hospitalisation). Their general condition, parenteral and enteral
nutritional intake, complications and growth were compared.
