A baby shower with a twist! The district administration of Lucknow has set up a ‘Godh Bharaai’ & Awareness programme for pregnant women in their last trimester to inform them about necessary dos and don’ts and healthy practices.

Rolled out under the State Nutrition Mission, the programme has been launched in the adopted village of Anaura in Chinhat Block and if the model is successful, the district administration plans to replicate the model in all 200 adopted villages by the 69th Independence Day.

The programme requires all pregnant women in their last trimester to be summoned to Anganwadis and educated about essential dos and don’ts and healthy practices such as iron and calcium supplementation and breastfeeding.

Also, under the same project, the district administration has recognised 5 extremely malnourished children and nearly 65 partially nourished children in Anaura. The district magistrate plans to organise a one-day special treatment camp for all the identified children, of the 200 adopted villages to tackle major health issues and other chronic medical problems.

Speaking about the Godh Bharaai programme, the district magistrate said, “As a symbolic gesture, the district administration also distributes nutrition supplement kits." Though a conventional method, the Lucknow district administration has managed to use Godh Bharaai with an innovative twist to improve maternal and child health.
