High-quality protein boosts optimal health and well-being of humans
High-quality meat protein is necessary for good health! However, there are many controversies surrounding the consumption of animal meat. Now, a researcher has highlighted the importance of high-quality protein in maintaining optimal growth and development in humans.
Dr. Guoyao Wu, a Texas A&M AgriLife Research Faculty Fellow scientist and a professor in the department of animal science at Texas A&M University, has published an article on the topic of dietary protein intake in the journal Food & Function. In his research paper, Dr. Wu suggests that an appropriate mixture of animal- and plant-based foods is a practical method of providing essential amino acids through the diet.
Essential amino acids, when provided adequately, play the crucial role of maintaining muscle mass and providing physical strength to the body. Consequently, protein intake needs to be adjusted according to the metabolic rate, physiological need, and health status of an individual.
Dr. Wu explained, "Sufficient intake of high-quality protein from animal products such as lean meat and milk is essential for optimal growth, development and health of children, as well as for optimal maintenance, function and health of tissues including skeletal muscle, brain, heart, kidneys, liver and gut in adults."
By consuming lean meat rich in high-quality protein, vitamins, and minerals, individuals can benefit from their moderate-to-intense exercise regimen. Although there is no fixed amount of protein intake that is suitable for everyone, the consumption of proteins should not exceed the safe upper limits to avoid any adverse health issues.
