The Nestlé Nutrition Institute (NNI) congratulates all the recently announced winners of American Society for Nutrition (ASN) Awards, which recognize Scientists, Clinicians, Educators, Mentors and Young Investigators.
In particular, we congratulate Dr. Sarbattama Sen who has won the Samuel J. Fomon Young Physician Award, an award supported by the NNI.
This award is and given to a physician within ten years of completing medical postdoctoral training, for outstanding work in the general area of pediatric nutrition, infant growth or body composition. The award honours Dr. Fomon, best known for his book titled: ‘Infant Nutrition’.
Dr. Sen received the award for her research into the short- and long-term effects of maternal obesity on mothers and infants. She is an outstanding physician-scientist and a rising star in the field of maternal obesity research, with a focus on devising interventions to ameliorate the impact on maternal and infant health.
She has spent the last four years conducting research at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Center on Aging at Tufts University. She is a clinician, a teacher and a board certified neonatologist, actively involved with caring for infants in the intensive care unit. She has made significant contributions to the field and is expected to continue to change the landscape for the better.
The winner was presented the award at a ceremony held at the American Society of Nutrition Meeting on 20 April in San Diego California.
