Philippines: Government Policies on Nutrition Education
Growth & Development
Malnutrition
Mario Campanzana of the Food & Nutrition Institute of the Philippines takes the discussion into developing markets. Citing extensive surveys of rural and urban communities, he outlines the nutritional status of the country, and explains problems with stunting and wasting, obesity, fluid intakes, micronutrient deficiencies, food insecurity and the economic burden undernutrition can create. He details an extensive nutrition programme, which aims to tackle the problems at a local and federal level, in particular using partnerships with the food industry, where successes have already been seen.
