When are infants ready for solid foods? Introduction of solid foods too early can create gastrointestinal and allergy problems later on. The intestine is not ready to accept solid foods for at least the first two months of life. The Committee on Nutrition of the Academy of Pediatrics recommends that solid foods be started somewhere between 4 and 6 months of age, even if an exclusive breastfeeding period of 6 months is the new recommendation of the WHO.
