Breastfeeding is the best nutrition after birth, resulting in both short- and long-term benefits with regard to health and reduced risk of disease.

Breast milk has an important impact on infant’s microbial colonization in which Human Milk Oligosaccharides exerts a key role. Human Milk Oligosaccharides are currently the great important nutritional gap between human milk and infant formula, but today with the possibility to produce HMOs in large scale, it is already possible to include some specific Human Milk Oligosaccharides s in infant formulas.

Human Milk Oligosaccharides in infant formula is a hot topic today and research on this topic is advancing, still with many unanswered questions, but also with some initial possible promising health outcomes, which will be discussed in this publication.
