It’s now well established that consuming carbohydrates during endurance exercise improves performance for events lasting an hour or more. On a practical level, a sports drink or energy gel taken with water, can deliver the right carbs in the right amounts to effectively extend endurance.However, a question that exercise physiologists have recently been debating is whether we should also be adding some protein to the carbs that we’re consuming during exercise.
